Local history is the history, nature and ecology, economic, social and legal development, literature and art of the native land.
The Department of Local History is an information center.
Since January 1, 2010, due to the growing interest in the history and peculiarities of the region, the Department of Local History began working in a new direction in the Aktobe Regional Universal Scientific Library named after S. Baishev.
The task of the department is to create and preserve a collection of documents related to the history of the region, to provide readers with the most valuable and unique local history publications.
The Department provides advisory and methodological assistance to all libraries and institutions of the region on local history literature.
The electronic database "Local History" (in Kazakh and Russian) is being systematized and developed. The local history card file consists of bibliographic records of articles about the region in newspapers and magazines "Aktobe region".
The task of the department is to acquaint readers with the history of their region and village, to arouse interest in their native land. Organization of creative meetings with poets, writers, journalists, presentations of books by local authors, meetings dedicated to anniversaries and important events, exhibitions of books and illustrations.
The department has a Literary lounge "Kalamger", and since 2011 the regional action "Okityn olke"has been held.
